Alix is such a place.

I am Alix Aelterman and from a young age I dreamed of having my own restaurant. Cooking and bringing people together was always my passion, but the path to Alix did not take the traditional route. I studied commercial engineering, worked in marketing, yet kept returning to the hospitality industry. In my spare time, I cooked at people’s homes – intimate dinners with inventive dishes. Until the moment came when everything fell into place.

The childhood home where I grew up, once my father’s doctor’s office, became vacant. My father died when I was in my early twenties, and it felt like an opportunity – and an honor – to revitalize his home. Thus was born Alix – Maison d’Amis, a place where people come together, where stories are shared and memories are created.

What began as a small restaurant with picnics in the garden grew into a fixture in Ghent. Today we welcome guests for brunches, private dining, parties and corporate events. We host afterworks, intimate dinners and meetings in our conservatory or the mansion. Together with a close-knit team, I arrange each event from A to Z, with an eye for atmosphere, taste and hospitality.
